Getting Started
The model behind short drama apps is a simple one. What you watch are very short vertical episodes. The first few are free. Coins or a pass pay for the later ones. That split causes most confusion. The five answers below are a https://www.reelshorts.org/where-to-watch/governor-your-first-lady-is-a-mafia-heiress/ good place to start.
What is a short drama app?
It is an app that streams vertical video built for phones. Each series splits into many short episodes. The storylines gravitate toward billionaires, revenge and hidden-identity reveals. Werewolf romances are likewise popular. The leaders are ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama. The format originated in China as duanju.
How long does each episode run?
Most clock in at one to two minutes. 60 to 100 seconds is a common target for Western shoots. A series usually has 20 to 100 episodes. ReelShort’s listing for Married at First Sight shows 90. Its hit Double Life series lists 60. A full series can run as long as a movie.
Why do episodes stop at cliffhangers?
Usually, that is where the free episodes run out. The first 5 to 15 are usually free, ReelShort says. Industry reporting gives a figure of 8 to 10. The lock tends to land right at peak tension. That timing is essentially the business model. It is also one of the top complaints from viewers.
Which companies own ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?
ReelShort is owned by Crazy Maple Studio based in Sunnyvale, California. China’s COL Group is the backer of that studio. DramaBox is operated by Singapore’s StoryMatrix, a unit of Beijing Dianzhong Technology. My Drama is a Holywater product, and the company was founded in Kyiv in 2020. October 2025 is when Fox Entertainment took an equity stake. In terms of launch dates, ReelShort came in 2022, and DramaBox in 2023.
Can I watch in a web browser or on TV?
Yes, within limits. On ReelShort’s website, you can sign in with Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok or email. Your progress syncs with the app. Free unlocks are available only in the app. My Drama is available on Apple TV through its own app. We came across no verified ReelShort TV app at all.
Costs
The most common questions are about money. The figures reflect US App Store prices as of September 2026. They vary depending on country, platform and promotion. Every number is best read as approximate. Check the pricing screen first, every time. This is what the listings show.
Is ReelShort actually free?
Partly, and what is free really is free. Anyone searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” is after the catch. Opening episodes cost nothing. It costs nothing to download. For later ones, you need coins or a VIP pass. You can earn free coins from ads and check-ins.
How does the coin system work?
Coins are the currency that opens episodes. An episode costs about 60 coins, according to ReelShort’s blog. Its smallest pack is roughly $4.99 for 500 coins. Bonus coins come with bigger packs. Watching one rewarded ad unlocks two episodes. You earn 100+ coins with a 7-day check-in streak.
Can coins expire?
That depends on the app. According to ReelShort, free reward coins usually expire. Coins you paid for do not. My Drama does things differently. Its terms forfeit coins after 12 months of inactivity. Spend reward coins first and keep active.
What does a weekly pass cost?
The usual US price is around $19.99 a week. You will see it listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. Some apps offer cheaper options. GoodShort starts around $5.99, and ShortMax lists $9.99. Each of these passes renews automatically. Forget for four weeks and you pay four times as much.
Can I get a monthly or yearly plan?
A few apps offer them. ReelShort’s blog lists a yearly plan at about $199.99. Its monthly price is not the same on every page. So that figure remains unconfirmed. DramaWave’s listing shows about $36.99 a month. In the US, ShortMax lists weekly passes only.
Can I watch without paying anything?
Yes, if you are patient. Begin with each series’ free first episodes. Use rewarded ads to unlock more. Keep up a daily check-in streak. There are also official ReelShort channels on YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion. You get the most by combining all four.
Managing and Cancelling Subscriptions
A weekly pass keeps renewing until you stop it. That comes as a surprise to plenty of people. Cancelling is quick once you know where. Where you cancel depends on how you paid. App stores cancel what was bought in them. Purchases on a website are the company’s to handle.
Will deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No, and this is a common mistake. According to Apple, removing an app does not end its subscription. Google makes the same point about uninstalling. My Drama’s terms restate that warning. Until you cancel, the pass keeps renewing. Cancel first, delete afterward.
How do I cancel a subscription on iPhone?
Begin by opening the Settings app. Tap your name at the top of the screen. After that, select Subscriptions. Tap the drama app. Tap Cancel and confirm it. To be safe, act a day before renewal.
How do I cancel on an Android phone?
Begin by opening the Google Play Store app. Find your Subscriptions list. Choose the short drama app there. Tap Cancel and work through the prompts. Remember, uninstalling does not cancel anything. Recheck the list to confirm the change.
Can I cancel within the app?
Sometimes, but cancelling through the store is safer. ShortMax’s terms point to an in-app option under About Subscription. Store buyers are pointed to App Store or Google Play. Only what Apple and Google billed is under their control. If you bought on the website, reach out to the company. Screenshot every cancellation.
Why did I get charged after a free trial?
The wording of trials can confuse. ShortMax’s developer admits that its “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels puzzled people. Passes renew 24 hours before expiry, its terms say. The renewal costs the same price. Cancel a day before any trial ends. Then make sure the store shows it cancelled.
Refunds
How refunds work depends on who took your money. App Store charges are handled by Apple. Play charges go through Google. The companies deal with their own website charges. No route can guarantee a refund. Each path is mapped in this table.
| Where the payment was made | How to cancel | Refund path | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone (App Store) | Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel | Apple’s Report a Problem page | Deleting the app won’t cancel |
| Android (Google Play) | Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel | Google within 48 hours, then the developer | Uninstalling alone does not cancel |
| Website | The app company’s account page or support | The app company only | Often non-refundable, according to My Drama’s terms |
How do I request an Apple refund?
Start at Apple’s Report a Problem page. Log in using the Apple ID that paid. Choose the charge, then explain briefly. Apple’s reply usually comes within 24 to 48 hours. Apple makes the call, not the app maker. Remember to cancel the pass too, or it will renew.
How does a Google Play refund work?
Timing is the biggest factor here. Within 48 hours of purchase, you may get a refund, according to Google. Send the request directly through Google Play. Contact the developer after that window. ReelShort tells users to go to Profile, then Feedback. Move fast when a renewal catches you by surprise.
What about buying on the website?
Those are dealt with by the app company. Apple and Google can’t step in there. Under My Drama’s terms, web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires. EU and UK users get a 14-day withdrawal right under its terms. Other companies set their rules for themselves. Before paying online, read the terms.
Can I get a refund for unused coins?
Usually not, and that is in the terms. My Drama’s terms call coin purchases final. ShortMax will not refund unless its own fault makes a product unusable. For accidental buys, store requests may help. Until a series hooks you, stick to the smallest coin pack. Then mistakes cost you less.
Safety and Copycat Apps

Is Real Short an app?

The real name is written as one word. On the App Store, its seller is New Leaf Publishing. Confirm that before downloading.
What are ReelBox, DailyShort and GoldShort TV, exactly?

Can mod APKs and coin generators be trusted?

Coin generators are equally unofficial. There is no way for you to verify what they do. Only use official stores and websites.
Why is ReelShort rated so low on Trustpilot?
ReelShort’s Trustpilot page sits at 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Charges after cancelling are a recurring complaint. Weekly auto-renewals are often mentioned. Others point to coin prices and denied refunds. Any review site reflects people who chose to post. Treat it as a list of things to check, not a verdict.
